Calling For the Resignation of President Bush

Passed 06/26/2006

WHEREAS it is the President’s first Constitutional duty to act as the Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and therefore President Bush’s highest responsibility to orchestrate a winning strategy in Iraq that will restore stability to the region and bring our troops home, and

WHEREAS when asked recently if he could envision a day when our troops would leave Iraq, President Bush said “That’ll be decided by future presidents and future governments of Iraq,” and

WHEREAS the President’s admission that he has no intention of developing a plan to bring our troops home before the end of his term in 2009, coupled with his failure to propose clear benchmarks for success, demonstrates an unwillingness to assume his role as President and fulfill his obligation to the American people,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley (DP/SFV) believes President Bush has abdicated his sworn duty as Commander in Chief, and therefore calls on him to resign his office, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that DP/SFV encourages our local members of Congress to join in our call for the President’s resignation, in the best interests of our country, our troops, and our mission in Iraq.
