WHEREAS persons with disabilities pay taxes, vote, raise families, and seek to work for the betterment of society through political and civic involvement, and
WHEREAS the Americans with Disabilities Act now in its 16th year, was passed with bi-partisan support to ensure equal access to all areas of a life including, but not limited to, political expression, and
WHEREAS the local, state and national arms of the Democratic party consistently promote disability rights as part of their respective platforms,
BE IT RESOLVED that the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley shall consistently include access to persons with disabilities in all its events and projects and call for all clubs and organizations affiliated with DP/SFV or who receive support from DP/SFV to do likewise;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley shall not endorse or otherwise support any Democratic office holder or candidate who does not support disability rights issues, and we encourage elected officials to include in job announcements or solicitations for political appointees the following language: “People with disabilities are encouraged to apply.”
